1. a reserve copy/-ies of data created manually or with the help of special backup software
  2. the process of creating reserve copies of digital data

The data can be restored from the reserve copies in the future, if the original data are lost or stolen. Users can create reserve copies of their data manually, but usually special backup software, such as Novosoft Office Backup, is required. The following backup methods are distinguished: full backup and incremental backup.

The two main purposes of backup are:

  1. to be able to restore an operating system to a working state after hardware crashes or system failures
  2. to be able to restore some or all of the user's data if they are accidentally lost or deleted.
